April festivities in Horta de Sant Joan
Horta de Sant Joan celebrates its traditional April Festivals once again!
The April Festivals are always celebrated on the first weekend after April 21st, in commemoration of one of the miracles of Sant Salvador (he made it rain after a long drought).
The April Festival in Horta offers a program full of activities for all tastes and ages. With events that combine tradition, culture, and fun, the town transforms into a vibrant and participatory space.
The program kicks off with family-friendly activities such as a card tournament, children's snacks, children's shows, and the traditional bowling competition. The evening comes alive with the children's fire run (correfoc), which fills the streets with light, music, and a festive atmosphere.
One of the highlights is the grand procession to the Convent of Sant Salvador, accompanied by the Giants of Horta and a brass band, followed by Mass. The day continues with the popular paella competition, and there's also time for sports with a football match. In the evening, the festivities continue with afternoon and evening dancing and a mobile disco, transforming the town into a vibrant party hub.
On Sunday, culture and tradition take center stage with the 38th Annual Quick Painting Competition, a well-established event that brings together adult and youth artists. The artwork is created during the morning and culminates with the exhibition and awards ceremony in the afternoon.
The day also includes Mass and a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, a dance with giants, a jota (a traditional Aragonese dance), and a tribute to the town's elders, keeping the most traditional character of the festival alive. To close the weekend, a circus performance brings the lively festivities to a close.
Don't miss it!
