La Cavallada in Castelló d'Empúries

One of the most deeply rooted traditions in the recent past of Castelló d'Empúries is the celebration of the Cavallada organized by the Grupo Cavallista de Castelló. Horse riding groups from all the Girona regions, Barcelona and Northern Catalonia participate.

La Cavallada begins with the concentration of the participants on the esplanade of the Hort d'en Negre. Afterwards, a popular breakfast is made and the parade begins, which runs through the streets and squares of the historic center.

One of the busiest squares is that of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, where the blessing of the cattle takes place, in front of the portal of the Basilica of Santa María. Finally, the presentation and exhibition of the participating horses and carriages will be made.
