Aldover

Aldover belongs to the Baix Ebre region. It extends between the top of the Penyaflor and the right bank of the Ebro with a narrow strip that extends from the dry to the irrigated. It is located between Xerta, Alfara de Carles and Tortosa.

The archaeological remains found tell us about a habitat tradition since prehistoric times. Thus, the deposits of the Lobo Valley and the Cuenca, where flint tips have been found, must be added the Iberian settlement of Tossal and Valleta.

The place was populated already in times of the Muslim occupation. It is believed that the name comes from the Arabic term "aldowayra" which means "booth". In 1154 it was ceded to Tortosa by Count Ramon Berenguer IV.

The parochial church, of neogothic style, is under the invocation of Sant Jordi and of the Nativity of the Virgin Maria. It consists of three naves with apse.

Church the Nativity of Our Lady

It is neoclassical style and is located on the hill of Tossal. There are the remains of the old Calvary.

The river beach of the Ebro

Of great extension, where the beauty of the landscape of the ribera forest stands out. On the banks of the river is the jetty.

The place of the Pots

Located inside the Barranco de la Cuenca, it is a very eroded rocky place where, during the whole year, you can see dammed water.

Interpretation Center of the Ebro River and the riverbank forest

In the center you can enjoy two permanent exhibitions of different themes but related among them:

• Exposition of the riparian forest, where you can get to know the Ebro basin, its water cycle, the predominant biodiversity and the corresponding trophic networks.
• Exhibition Aldover in time, dedicated to the collection made during the 80s of one of the most important collections with lithic materials of the Ebro Lands.
