Banyeres del Penedès

Banyeres del Penedès is a municipality located in the central part of the Baix Penedès, in the Penedès depression. It bounded on the north Llorenc del Penedes and Sant Jaume dels Domenys; east with the Strawberry Tree; south with Castellet and Gornal (Barcelona) and Bellvei, by a narrow strip, and Santa Oliva; southwest with Albinyana; west with the enclave of Albons (Santa Oliva); and northwest Bisbal del Penedès with.

The term includes, besides the town of Banyeres del Penedès, head of municipality, the villages of San Miguel Masias and Saifores and developments of Forests, Red House and Priorat Banyeres.

The first document that mentions the term dates from the year 938 in a confirmation of the possessions of the Monastery of Sant Cugat by the Frankish king Luis overseas. Tower Guard Banyeres is mentioned in later documents that confirm the rights of the Monastery (986, 1002, 1007). In the old part, heading north, you can see the remains of the Tower, located on the top of the mountain (172 m.)

1172, Santa Maria de Banyeres was priory of Ripoll. The first news we have of Priorat of Banyeres date from the thirteenth century. A document dated 1574 refers to the priory Monastery of Santa Maria de Banyeres, which the hermitage, a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture is.

It was discovered in 1960 on the grounds of Mas Cañizo in Les Masies de San Miguel, a necropolis of the VI-V centuries BC.
