Fontanals de Cerdanya
The term is formed by the old municipalities of Urtx (15.12 km2) and Queixans (13.52 km2), merged in 1969 and called
Fontanals de Cerdanya so that no ancient toponym would prevail over the others. From the first come the villages or nuclei of Urtx, El Vilar de Urtx (currently the capital of the municipality), Escadarcs, Estoll, Soriguerola, the Escloper farmhouse, the Santes Creus farmhouse, and the Soriguera farmhouse; from the second, those of Queixans, Les Pereres, the Montagut farmhouse, the English mill and the Amunt farmhouse.
Fontanals is in the most cheerful band of Cerdanya, which, as Josep Pla says, produces a sensation of width, elevation, light, freedom. This sensation is even more pronounced in Fontanals, since from its privileged position you can enjoy a beautiful perspective of the region.
With a surface area of 28.64 km2, its geographical space extends along the two slopes of Cerro Rodó (1,751 m) and Rocas Altas (1,776 m) from where the Alp valley overlooks the Saltéguet ravine, up to the bank of the river Segre, in the Tramuntana.
