Fortià is part of the Alt Empordà region, province of Gerona. The municipal term has an extension of 10.79 km2 and 8m. of altitude.
The limits of the municipal term are to the north with Vila-sacra, to the east with Castelló d'Empúries, to the south with Riumors and to the west with El Far d'Empordà, Siurana and Vilamalla. It has the Fortianell kernel added.
