Siurana

Siurana is part of the Alt Empordà region, province of Girona. The municipal area has an area of 11 km2 and 33 m altitude. The limits of the municipal area are to the north with Vilamalla, to the east with Riumors and Torroella de Fluvià, to the south with Palau de Santa Eulàlia andSant Miquel de Fluvià and to the west with Garrigàs.

This town has always been linked to the pond with which it shared its name, a large pond of water that dried up in the mid-19th century and was converted into crops.

But still today, in times of rain, when the torrents and irrigation canals cannot suck up all the water that the clouds have dropped, the pond and lakes flood again and Siurana recovers its humid and vigorous appearance. Walk through this plain and the fertile landscape, walk along the old royal road and visit the remains of the castle and the church of Santa Coloma that take off at the highest point of Siurana.

Siurana de Empordà is already documented in the year 822 with the name: Villa Fuirana. The monasteries of Sant Pere de Roda, Sant Esteve de Banyoles and Santa Maria de Roses had possessions.

The site belonged to the county of Empúries. In 1413 she was mistress of the Gueraua de Senesterra castle.

• Church of Santa Coloma: temple already documented in the s. XIII, although the current building is from the 18th century, with reuse of elements from the previous, Romanesque one.
