Xerta
The town of Xerta is a municipality of the Baix Ebre that is located in a pronounced meander, to the right of the Ebro river, looking towards Tivenys.
Due to its location near the Ebro River , the city was plundered several times during the War of Separation, during the War of Independence and in the first Carlist War.
The municipality covers 32.55 km 2 upstream, about twelve kilometers from Tortosa.
Places of interest
- The Ebro river and the Azud de Xerta: the Azud built diagonally from side to side of the Ebro river along about 300 meters. Its function is to divert water to the channels of the Right and the Left of the Ebro.
- La Vía Verde: is a disused railway track that has been adapted to travel by bicycle, on foot and on horseback.
- The mills: There are three different mills (El Molino de Abajo, El Molino de Medio, El Molino de Arriba) located in the northwest of the urban center of Xerta.
- Trenches of the Barranco de los Fornets: the City of Xerta recovered the trench of the Fornets ravine, in the project to enhance its Civil War heritage and recover the historical memory.
