Ball Cerdà in La Seu d'Urgell
Come and experience the Ball Cerdà in La Seu d'Urgell!
The Ball Cerdà is a traditional dance deeply rooted in the popular culture of Cerdanya and other regions of the Catalan Pyrenees. It is a collective and ceremonial dance performed in a circle, with alternating men and women, and usually takes place during local festivals or important town celebrations. It is a vivid expression of the sense of community, belonging, and cultural identity of the region.
The Ball Cerdà stands out for its organized structure and its solemn and participatory nature. The steps are marked, repetitive, and unfold in different phases, with a gentleman or leader leading the circle and guiding the movements. The music that accompanies the dance is usually played on traditional instruments such as the accordion, violin, gralla, or piccolo, creating a festive yet respectful atmosphere.
This dance has been passed down from generation to generation and, despite social transformations, is still alive today thanks to the efforts of popular culture groups and the local community itself. The Ball Cerdà is not only a display of folklore, but also a symbol of cohesion and collective memory.
