Happy Sant Jordi's Day!

Tradition dictates that men should give their loved ones a beautiful red rose, like the blood that flowed—according to legend—from the evil dragon that Saint George slew. As a symbol of affection, women give their loved ones a book. This tradition has endured through the years and has become one of Catalonia's most emblematic celebrations.

Thus, April 23rd is also International Book Day, which, interestingly, coincides with the birth and death dates of some illustrious writers from around the world. One of the best known is William Shakespeare, who was born and died on that same date, adding special significance to the celebration.

On this day, Catalonia is filled with stalls overflowing with flowers of every color, mountains of books, and people crowding the streets of towns and cities, celebrating not only love for loved ones but also culture. The squares and streets are transformed into a vast literary and floral market, where you can find works of all genres and authors, as well as roses of different varieties and colors.

From femTurisme.cat we invite you to go out and celebrate! We suggest some literary routes through Catalonia that will allow you to enjoy this special day and discover unique places related to the literature and history of our country.

Sant Jordi's Day is not only an opportunity for giving and receiving gifts, but also a chance to enjoy the rich cultural heritage that surrounds us. Participating in literary activities, attending book presentations, or simply strolling through the vibrant streets is a perfect way to experience this festival. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of this beloved tradition and share unforgettable moments with your loved ones.
