June 8, World Oceans Day

08/06/2025

Every June 8th, World Oceans Day is celebrated, a date proclaimed by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of the oceans to human life and the balance of the planet. The oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface and generate around 50% of the oxygen we breathe. They are essential for the climate, food, biodiversity, and well-being of millions of people.

This day serves as a time to reflect on the major challenges that threaten ocean health, such as plastic pollution, overfishing, climate change, and the destruction of marine ecosystems. Every year, a massive amount of plastic waste is dumped into the seas, endangering marine wildlife and, ultimately, our own health.

World Oceans Day reminds us that protecting the seas is not just the responsibility of governments, but a shared task for all. Action now is essential to ensure healthy oceans for future generations.
