Route through Vilanova, Miralpeix Castle and Sant Pere de Ribes

Sudden changes always present in this region as small as varied, where everything is tight and in small proportions to make a tasting. Located in front of the Lighthouse, we go up to the Museum of the Sea and Sant Cristóbal. Once crossed the train track and by various variants of the GR 92 and the Garraf roads, we begin the ascent to the Miralpeix Castle for the Muntanyeta, els Colls, the House of the Sea and the Sierra dels Paranys.

Miralpeix Castle is a work of the municipality of Sitges (Garraf) declared a cultural asset of national interest. The set has an area of about 275 m2, rectangular and structured in two rooms.

The tower or castle of Miralpeix seems to have been destroyed in 1190, in a fight between Ponç de Ribes and Gombau de Miralpeix on the one hand, and Berenguer de Castellet and Eimeric de Espiells on the other. The ruins of what was found are on top of a hill above the farmhouse of Can Girona.

Throughout several excavation campaigns (1991-1992) two phases of occupation have been documented in the castle: the first would cover from the eleventh century to the end of the thirteenth century, and the second from the fourteenth century to the end of the eighteenth century. The most widely documented historical moment is the abandonment of the place at the end of the 17th century.

Once in the Castle we will go down in Can Girona and by the Ribes stream and the Carç we will arrive at Sant Pere de Ribes. The return to Vilanova can be done by bus (stops Plaza Cataluña and Paseo de Circunvalación).
