El Cogul

Province: Lleida | Shire: Les Garrigues | Inhabitants: 193 | Extension: 17,5 Km2 | Altitude: 279 m

The Cogul is divided by the River Set and sits on undulating territory where 174 people live.

The town, at an altitude of 279 m, is on a plateau dominated by the Parish Church of the Virgen de la Asunción, in Renaissance style, with a Baroque façade and a stone bell tower. There is much devotion to Saint Christ; According to tradition, he was the brother of Granadella and Balaguer, and even the three crosses were cut from the same tree. Formerly the Church of the Assumption housed an image of the saint in a dressing room located to the left of the main altar.

It still preserves houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Roca dels Moros

It is famous for the cave paintings of the Roca dels Moros, where you can see scenes of men and women and certain animals (goat, deer, bull, horse, wild boar) with an absolutely singular and unique style. We also find iconographies of groups of producers (6,500-3,500 years before the present) of a surprising modernity.
