Montgai is a town in the La Noguera region, located in the Baix Sió area, bordering the Bellmunt-Almenara mountain range to the south and the Montclar range to the north. The municipality of Montgai also includes the village of Butsènit.

The area around Montgai also preserves vestiges of the Civil War, such as the trenches and machine gun nests of the Sierra dels Tossals, from where the area of Pont de Balaguer could be controlled, on the Segre front.

As for Butsènit, its 18th-century Baroque church stands out, where paintings in the same style, displaying great artistic quality, have recently been discovered. Among them is an image of Sant Nicolau, the town's patron saint.

Crossing through the Cal Valeri archway, we find, within the space of a portal in the old medieval wall, the remains of a Renaissance ceiling made of molded plaster. The church square also contains some silos carved into the rock where barley was once stored.
