Auto Sacramental in Sant Vicenç dels Horts

The Auto Sacramental of Sant Vicenç dels Horts is a unique jewel. A popular theatrical manifestation that dates back at least to the 16th century, when the Baron of Cervelló was interested in having performances in his Barony, of which Sant Vicenç dels Horts was the most important town.

The church of Sant Vicenç dels Horts hosts every year the Auto Sacramental, the representation of the Passion of Jesus Christ that for more than 400 years has been represented at Easter in this town in Baix Llobregat.

Despite not knowing the exact date of its start, we are convinced that we are getting quite close. Two dates are proposed: in 1564 and 1587. In fact, the auto sacramentals appear in the 16th century. One has, by the way, that in 1793 the literary form of Fray Antoni de Sant Jeroni, a monk of the order of the Discalced Trinitarians of Barcelona, was adopted.
