Fallas of Alàs
The village of Alàs is the only one in the Alt Urgell region that celebrates a traditional descent of the fallas (fireworks displays) in the style of other Pyrenean towns. The event has been held since 2021, inspired by the discovery of a document recording the oldest known fallas descent in the Pyrenees, dating back to 1543.
Since then, every June 23rd, the people of Alàs and the surrounding municipality come together to give a unique and special touch to the night of Sant Joan. This celebration features more than fifty falleros (members of the Fallas festival committee) who descend with their lit fallas (monuments) from the hill near the Hermitage of the Virgin of the Pieces to the town square of Alàs.
The fallas are large wooden logs that are prepared in advance and carried alight during the descent, creating a breathtaking visual spectacle. The tradition of the fallas is deeply rooted in various towns in the Pyrenees, and Alàs has successfully integrated itself into this rich culture, contributing its own unique essence and characteristics.
In addition to the Fallas festival, Alàs offers a spectacular natural environment, with mountain landscapes that invite you to go hiking and enjoy nature. Its strategic location provides access to several trails and routes ideal for hiking enthusiasts and outdoor lovers.
Don't miss it! The Alàs Fallas festival is a unique opportunity to experience an authentic tradition and enjoy a magical night in the company of the local people.
