Banyoles celebrates the Sant Martirià Festival!

The Banyoles Festival, dedicated to Sant Martirià, is one of the most emblematic celebrations on the city's festive calendar and one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Pla de l'Estany region. Held on the weekend before October 24th, the patron saint's day, it combines tradition, music, popular culture, and activities for all audiences.

With documented origins dating back to 1300, the festival maintains its religious aspect, with events such as the veneration of the relics of Saint Martyrius and the singing of the Goigs, which takes place in the church of the Monastery of Sant Esteve after the solemn service. This spiritual component coexists with a broad and diverse festival program that reflects the open and participatory nature of Banyoles.

The Fiesta Mayor is centered around two main themes: the competitive days of copla and sardana music, which bring together the country's best groups, and the dynamic Barracas, a concert and nightlife venue that originated in Banyoles and has become a model for festivals throughout the region.

The festival is also filled with family, cultural, and popular activities promoted by local organizations, groups, and associations that keep tradition and a sense of community alive. Parades, dances, children's shows, workshops, and exhibitions are part of a program designed for all ages.
