Santa Tecla in Tarragona
Santa Tecla is the festival of festivals, the Major Festival of Tarragona. A popular and participatory festival that dates back to 1321 and that in 1996 was declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia and in 2002, a Festival of National Tourist Interest by the Spanish Government.
Santa Tecla is, therefore, one of the richest and most vivid popular traditions in the entire State and its festivities last two weeks, which begin in the second half of September, with the performance of the Seguici Popular, one of the most important in the Catalan Countries, and the human tower groups.
The program of events grows and changes significantly year after year, but it is always structured around activities that remain fixed in each edition and that make up the ritual sequence of the festivities.
