Amer

Amer is a municipality located in a small valley north of the Selva region, touching Garrotxa to the North and Gironès to the East. It is made up of different entities: Amer, the Costa de Santa Brígida, Grup Solivent, Lloret Salvatge, Palou, Sant Climent d'Amer, Sant Genís, Veïnat de la Jonquera, Veïnat del Colomer and Veïnat del Mont.

The urban center of Amer has been built around the medieval monastery and the roads that connected it with Gerona and Olot. Its appearance is completely medieval, starting with the Plaça de la Vila, square and all with porches. This square is the scene of the only sardana danced in a spiral in all the Catalan Countries. It is danced on August 16 and is called the Sardana del Batlle. Apart from this square, the town of Amer has other buildings that are worth visiting such as the house of l'Abat (Can Boles), Can Mont and Can Gasull in the Monastery or Can Gultresa in Plaça de la Vila.

As far as religious buildings are concerned, we find the church of Santa Maria, of Romanesque origin, but within the municipality there are also monumental buildings such as the Torre de Rocasalva or Torre de Sant Climent. In addition, the rail route that went from Gerona to Olot has recently been recovered. On this route, Amer was the third most important stop, after the two mentioned above, and today you can find buildings recovered for tourist use in the middle of the greenway.

In the surroundings of the town of Amer, but within the municipality, we find the hermitage of Santa Brígida. Next door is the Santa Brígida school that specializes in climbing. That is why, for more than forty years, climbers and paragliding enthusiasts have been visiting it. Nearby there is a place where you can practice paragliding, as well as climbing.
