Gósol

Located in the heart of the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, Gósol is a charming town that invites visitors to discover its historical, cultural, and natural treasures. The village of Gósol is located at the south of the Cadí mountain range, in the southwest of the Pas dels Gosolans, a place that has witnessed history since time immemorial. Findings of flint and axes confirm that this area was already inhabited during the Neolithic period. The original settlement was probably located in Tossalet de Sant Genís, and later, in pre-Roman times, the population settled on small hills that would become landmarks for castles and churches. The name Gósol appears documented for the first time in 839 in the consecration deed of Santa María de la Seu d'Urgell.

Gósol offers several hiking trails that allow visitors to explore the surrounding area and enjoy spectacular scenery. The "Camí dels Bons Homes" (GR-107) is a long-distance trail that passes through the town and follows the footsteps of the Cathars as they fled from religious persecution.

Gósol Castle

Gósol Castle, dating back to the 11th century, is located on the Camino de los Buen Hombres (GR-107) route. Within its walls are the remains of the Vila Vella, an old settlement abandoned in favor of the new town located at the foot of the hill.

Church of the Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is the parish church of Gósol. It is located in the center of the village and has witnessed religious and community life throughout the centuries.

Picasso Center of Gósol

Gósol has a close relationship with the painter Pablo Picasso, who lived in the village during the spring and summer of 1906. During his stay, Picasso underwent a transformation in his color palette and painting style, influenced by the surroundings and the people of Gósol. The Gósol Picasso Center pays tribute to this stage of his career, exhibiting reproductions of the works he created during his stay in the municipality.

Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park

Gósol is the gateway to the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, created on July 15, 1983. With an area of 41,342 hectares, it is one of the largest natural parks in Catalonia. This protected area offers a wide variety of hiking trails that allow you to discover the region's flora and fauna. It is not unusual to spot eagles, roe deer, or chamois during a hike through the park.

Pedraforca Massif
