Vinaixa

The Vinaixa castle, also called "Cal Tarragó", was built at the end of the 8th century in the Arab era. Some old houses are preserved, among which the house of Poblet stands out.

The municipality was repopulated by Ramon Berenguer IV, who granted the population charter in 1151 to a group of men from Tàrrega. Between 1198 and 1204 Berenguer de Puigverd, owner of important agricultural establishments in the area, signed various instruments in favor of the Poblet monastery, which acquired full jurisdiction in 1210.

The nucleus of Vinaixa arises in the 8th century, from an Arab enclave around a castle. Vinaixa Castle (Cal Tarragó) is located at the highest point in the city (482 metres). With the advance of the Christians, the nucleus was repopulated by Ramon Berenguer IV who granted a population charter to the people of Tàrrega in the 12th century. Berenguer de Puigverd granted various instruments in favor of the Poblet monastery, which in the 13th century acquired total jurisdiction. The Casa de Poblet is an old property of the monks of Poblet, and had been for centuries the place where taxes were collected for the monastery. It preserves the seal of Abbot Copons on the arch of the portal and inside there are three Gothic-style arches, where each stone has its history.
